I realize your car is faster than his (for now). At our track you can remove anything you want (and win $1k on certain days if you win) to race. So maybe you don't remove anything, but some people do, and it gets them faster times, which is what going to the drag strip is all about.

Well I understand what you're saying about the money thing, even though your track is VERY rare in that they'll let you remove just about anything in order to get a better time.

My point is bragging about about a street car going so & so fast without things that are normally attached to the body is kind of stupid and really isn't much comparison to other cars of the same make with said bdy parts attached. Running little gas, removing the spare, pulling the subs, etc is fine in my book because many people run like that on the street. That's my point.

BTW, removing a hood isn't going to improve your time that much. You're talking about 40lbs on a 2800lb car. You'll be lucky to get a drop of 0.05 tenths loosing 40lbs. I've got $50 saying your buddy either got a much better 60' when he yanked his hood and/or was shifting better.

I ran into one the other night. After that slip up I made sure to keep my rpm's above 3500 and he was never able to pull on me after that, even in 5th.

I understand what your saying sorta. But everyone I know keeps their subs and a good bit of gas in their car on the street. He doesn't brag about his time and he did drop .3 sec of his 1/8 mile time. It's not only the weight but also much less engine heat. He ran ~10.1 repeatedly then ran two 9.8s with the hood off.

True but not on the 1/8 mile track and maybe not on 1/4 mile track. AGAIN, the hood was only off at the drag strip not on the road, not on a road course, just the drag strip.

alright mister-gonna-push over 300hp through a cd4e. Again, you go to drag strip for faster times, he got faster times, deal with it. And I thought you didn't care.

this is getting stupid; actually it got stupid a long time ago. What people are saying is: Without his hood he goes faster(supposedly), but that is with his "competition's" hood ON. Depending on the car, a hood can be heavy, but not a HUGE difference. If everybody took their hood off, it would look as stupid as the people with 2 14" blackies up front and huge 19" bling bling in the back . It looks stupid and it's not going to benefit that much. When you are saying he is at the track to see how fast he can go, I agree with the others; why stop there, yank the doors, trunk lid, and fenders too. It just comes off as not impressive when someone actually starts REMOVING, not replacing, important body panels to go "faster". Like all the gutted Hondas I see at school half of the time. It's a damn street car, not a bucket. What if you have a date and your girl can't open her door to get out because there is no door handle ....not to mention it just looks dirty and embarassing. There is just a point when you have to know what is tactful and practical. But you seem to be defending your friend until the end, so congratulations for getting faster times, but on how it was achieved.

umm some of the competion run w/o hoods too. Why go to the track to not get faster times? Are you really gonna have your girlfriend ride with you when your racing??? It benefited .3 sec on a 1/8 mile track which is pretty good and it doesn't take long to remove or put the hood back on. Doing all that other stuff does take a while. You remove the subs, spare tire, sometimes lower tire pressure at the track, so if your track allows you to do more, than why not? Since removing the hood is such a big thing for ya'll to get over, then just start leaving your subs, spare tire and jack in and all that stuff when you go to the track. Then just not go to the track because you're obviously not going there to get the best times you can.
