Actually, those were just the brands that came off the top of my head. I would include Orion HCCA amps in the same league the names you mentioned when it comes to power. Really the distinction between most of the amps is blurred. My McIntosh would not be good to use in an SPL car just as MMATS would not be good to use in a SQ car. Just my opinion that I have not heard a Class D amp that sounded quite as good as a high quality Class A/B amp.
When it comes to created huge amounts of bass effeciently, class D is the way to go.
In regards to SQ, the best sounding systems I've heard had 5 brands. The five mentioned in my first two groups of amps.
I consider MTX to be one of the best values on the market. RF has very good SQ, but a price tag to go with it.
Like I said, depending on the application, I would probably come up with a different list everytime.

I agree. If you are on a budget, look on ebay for used gear from just about any brand mentioned on this thread. One of my personal favs is the Art Series from PPI. Ugly as anything around, but some of the best amps I've ever heard. Try the A300 or A600 if there are any out there. They are bullet proof.

The old Phoenix Gold "M" series amps kicked ass if you had lots of speakers to drive, and wanted less than .5%THD at .5 ohms.
PPI still has killer bang for the buck. The A600 and A1200 could either drive 2 15's or 2 18's to about 135db.
But for true, output for the $. I'll take the MTX Pro series.....not a lot of cash, but absloutely bullet proof. I have the Pro 1502 driving 3 10's and it is sweet, tight, and powerful all at the right times. It used to power 2 JL Audio 12w6's and it still sounded great for the price.
BUT if you are gonna be on a spectrum analyzer for a comp, then go McIntosh or Xtant, or a/d/s. Otherwise, your ears aren't gonna hear a lot of difference.

a/d/s/ all the way, babe. Seriously, other than a fairly cheap foray into a R-F Punch 40ix for my previous vehicle; a Mercury Tracer Trio wagon :eek!: I have always sworn by a/d/s/. Superb build & sound quality; enviable industry reputation; invented high end car audio over 20 years ago when they introduced the P100 Power Plate. What more could you possibly ask for? And their speakers ain't bad, either.
