At least not since Jan 2001.

I, too, went to D.C. as a kid and unfortunately most of it went over my head. Oh well. It was neat though and I'll definitely go back to see the WWII memorial and spend some time doing the Smiths.

Take a cruise to Alaska or the Caribbean. Cost effective and the generations can do things together and apart on the same ship. Bingo, Disco, etc.

It will definatly be a summer vacation. Heaven forbid I try to take a vacation after football season starts, my oldest would kill me if he had to miss one minute of practice !LOL Would really like to see yellowstone, but what else is there to see that's close??

There are lots of things to do if you go to Yellowstone and don't mind a little driving. In Wyoming you can go see Custers Battlefield (aka Custers Last Stand), The Oregon Trail Ruts (Actual preservation of the ruts in rock), Register Cliff (where the pioneers signed their names as they passed), and Grand Teton National Park (which is beautiful). It is pretty amazing to see that part of history still alive. You can also take a drive into South Dakota and see the Black Hills (where Black Hills Gold comes from) and Mount Rushmore.

Anyhow, my family did this as a vaction while my sister and I were in school and it was absolutely amazing to see all of this. I hope this helps!

I wouldn't go there if you paid me...oh, wait, they DO pay me and I DO go there every day.... Actually, it's a good choice; my office is two blocks from the Air and Space museum, and every lunch hour I can hit the streets and misdirect tourists...

you do that too? i worked for a company that put up all those tents on the mall, you know what i'm talkin about, and people ALL the time people would ask "where's the white house?" i would say "1600 Pennslyvainia Avenue" they would say ok and walk towards the Capital building. it was great!

oh yeah, the original question, DC is great, do it if you can, not everyone gets to see the most powerful city in the world up close and personal

Define "close" Lots of nature and such in Yellowstone, but the west is HUUUGE. Lots of car time. But it's worth the experience if you've never seen that stuff. And after the vacation, the in laws would be so sick of ya after riding for so long that they wouldn't come around for a while

I am really thinking about New Hampshire after a suggestion froma fellow CEGer and doing some research. The family vote will have the last word though. Would absolutly love to see the west, and some day we will, but Mom in law is fighting us on flying, so We may have to reconsider anything that would require a plane to get there ! Keep the ideas coming though maybe with the right incentive we'll convince her. Would really like to stay us maybe carribean but nothing more exotic!

You are so used to us, you should try one of the coasts..eh.
The East coast will feel like going home. Lots of historic stuff - Hudson's Bay Company sites, Forts, Cheap Lobster dinners, and the list goes on...
On the West coast- The Rocky Mountains, Private and Government Campgrounds, Hike in only National Parks, the worlds largest Shopping mall - 3 operational sumbmarines - Canadian Navy = 2,
and all this at the usual just for our American friends LOW LOW Canadian prices.....

All great vacation spots, however I believe the Custer battlefield, Little Bighorn is in Montana.

You are correct, I meant to say that within Montana and Wyoming you could visit all of those spots (as Yellowstone is in both states...as well as a small part of Idaho)! oops!
