We are looking to explore somewhere new for vacation next year. We have gone to the same place in Canada for the last 7 years and have seen everything interesting there is to see for miles around. We are from south central Pa. It will be 3 generations on this vaction. My kids (teen boys) my mom & dad inlaw and my better half and me. We like a mix of nature, adventure, history. Somewhere we can relax, but there has to be enough stuff around that we can pick from to see and explore that we aren't bored to death all week, and someplace that has decent hotels or somekinds of cabins to rent. Any ideas would be great.

I love New England and it is very relaxing & not too too far from you. Get down to the northern part of the Cape & check out Martha's Vineyard...lots of stuff to do around the islands.

My vote. If you can get a hotel downtown you're within walking distance of everything. If you do end up going there, make sure you hit the International Spy Museum. They have some awesome stuff, including an Aston Martin DB5 that is outfitted just like James Bond's.

WALLY WORLD!!!!

I would recommend going to Europe and doing a tour. Tons of history, new cultures, hiking, biking, cities...

The list goes on and on....

I wouldn't go there if you paid me...oh, wait, they DO pay me and I DO go there every day.... Actually, it's a good choice; my office is two blocks from the Air and Space museum, and every lunch hour I can hit the streets and misdirect tourists...

Hmm.. by office do you mean sidewalk at the top of the escalator from the Smithsonian metro stop? Any by misdirect, do you mean sell overpriced maps

DC ain't so bad for a visit, and suburbia wasn't too bad of a place to live. Lots of history, culture, etc. You and your better half can go to a show at the Kennedy Center, National Theater, or Ford's Theater and leave the kids w/ the in laws for the night. Day trips to Civil War battlefields to explore. More museums than you could hope to see in a week.

Take the metro to said Smithsonian stop and you have nature, adventure, and history within walking distance. Natural Histoy Museum, Air & Space Museum, and American History Museum. Or the US Botanic Garden, FBI building, and the Holocaust Museum. Might could even trick the kids into seeing an art museum or two. You get the picture...

We did a tour of DC last summer with them. We were looking for something a little more exotic, but not as exotic as europe or Australia. We are kind of interested in Utah, but not sure need more ideas to compare before we have a family meeting to decide.

We did a few family vacations in the west when I was a kid.. Drove from Georgia out a couple times, and flew to Denver and rented a car once. Lots of stuff to see and do, but everything we did was FAAR apart. Yellowstone to Glacier to the Grand Tetons, the Badlands, Dinosaur, etc.. Riding in the car all day long kinda gets old. IMHO, finding a place to stay for a week would be nice. I think it'd get really old with that much family

The good thing about destinations on the east coast is that things are all pretty close together. Get out west and ya gotta drive. Or maybe that was just my family and a desire to see as much as we could during our time. I had visited over 40 states by the time I was like 13.

I really enjoyed Yellowstone and Glacier. Beautiful country out there. I still think it'd be fun to be a summer Park Ranger at one of those places..

What time of year are you guys gunna go? May wanna be a little further north during the summer, maybe further south during the winter... Grand Canyon vs. Grand Tetons
