I am aware that it is a centering spring and what it does. All I am saying is if installed properly it works just fine and will not cause any problems. I didn't try it with it out so I can't compare the two. I am basically a perfectionist when it comes to some things so I like to try and install things the way they were designed, if I see a way to improve it I will usually give it a try if possible. As I said before...I couldn't be any happier with my install and the performance of my shifter
