I am still stuck on what speakers to install in the front. It is personal taste really, but my budjet is coming to an end. So I have been thinking about high quality coaxials verses entry level to mid level sperates. I cannot afford high end seperates, even on EBAY!

Right now I am considering Infinty Kappa 5 inch 5.25i series (2 way speaker). The angle of the tweeter can be adjusted by rotating the stem of the tweeter.

What is the advantage of seperates? I can make some intelligent guesses but to me it must lie in the crossover module.

Has anybody been blown away from the difference seperates make?

Are their any Kappa users out there? I hear a lot of good things about them.

Lets get some discussion here! Ofcourse every body thinks their new speakers are the best right?

Appreciate your feedback.

well in my opinion if you get a good coaxial and feed it decent power it will sound just as good as entry level seperates assuming their installed so that they will give a decent sound stage. if the speakers are low in the door pointed in towards each other your soundstage will be about where you right knee is. basically seperates let you mount the tweeter in a location that will optimitze stereo imaging, bc high frequency notes dont penetrate your cars interior like subs do. personally i have polk ex 6.5 coax in the door w/ about 75 watts powering them. these sound really good to me, but because they are in the door the sound stage is lower than i want. so i installed a pair of coustic tweeters in the triangular defrost pod by the side mirrors in a swiveling cup so i can focus them at my head. these are getting about 15 watts from my deck. this makes all the diference as far as imaging and sound stage goes, the music sound like its coming off the front of my hood directly in front of me. i have the fader set slightly to the left. this setup cost about 150 for the tweets and the polks.

Are the triangular defrost pods hard to remove? Does the door have to come off?

The wiring for the tweeters, where did you route them?

Thanks.

i and a few other members r selling seperates in the classifieds you can save$ and get better stuff.i don't use anything but seperatesi have previously used orion extremes, mtx blue thunder, phoenix gold,jl audio and currently pioneers all seperates as long as u buy high end i think they r all very comparablei've kept my mb quartz crossover on all sets ithink the orions and pioneers had the punchiest mids, but they all sounded excellent,in another post someone mentioned vifa's i ran 4 8's in my old truck doors as mids they were both good and cheap a very rare combo in audio i didn't know they still made em.

If you are on a budget get the Vifas from madisound. I got rid of a set of my Quarts because I thought the Vifas sounded better.

There are two main advantages in seperates. The most important is the flexibility in the installation that the seperate tweeters give you. The second advantage, as you said, is most definitely in the crossover. The crossover is where the money lies. If you can build you own, you could blow away anything on the market for quite a bit less money, but most people can't without expensive test equipment.

A couple of years ago, upgrading the crossover (to a musicomp) in a pair of Quarts boosted the price by 200.00. The difference was they used higher quality caps and inductors and used a higher order crossover (i think it was a third order as opposed to a second order) This boosted the power handling on the same speakers to double their normal quoted power handling....

anyway, i guess i'm just rambling now...
