Hope to hear from u guys soon! I am on the verge of joining this group buy but i need these questions answered 1st. thanks!

If it means anything to ya I broke my B&M shifter. It was supposedly an old style and they broke easier, but I saw no difference between the two!

Well I mean use the longer bolts as "legs" to raise the entire tower up!!

I knew what you meant. Instead of a plate, have 4 sets of washers acting as the spacer. I guess it could work, but I'd feel safer with a plate (that whole contact area and me with my hard shifting at the track).

once again no it WILL NOT work...trust me i was one of the first on here to install this shifter...the center of the shifter base has to be supported...it will slide out of the base if it is not supported...a riser plate is necessary...with a hole in the plate big enough to allow the shifter to move through the gears, but not too large to allow the shifter to slide out of the base...

go take your stock shifter out,and see for yourself...washers to make the extra space WILL NOT work....

and once again for you '98 and '99 owners...you DO NOT have to get a seperate plate...the plate that the shifter bolts thread into can easily be used for the riser plate...you will just need 4 longer bolts with nuts....i will do a detailed write up of this install method soon..i will try and post up a couple pics as well...

i hope that someone gets these riser plates made, and it will make it easier on everyone to install..but if not my method has worked for me for over a year with no problems..

Sounds like using the plastic piece is the easiest cheapest method.. at least for us 98/99 owners. Then I could get my shifter sooner

You misunderstood that:

What he was saying is that you can drill out the holes to loosen the plate that is under the mounting area and bring the plate up top to use as the spacer. I own an 98 and would like to use a real spacer and leave the stock one in it's original location.

you are right about that...BUT you will probably NOT have enough clearance underneath the tower keeping that plate under there...the steeda needs more room underneath the tower than stock...so if you use a riser plate you will probably still have to remove that plate underneath and use nuts to secure the new longer bolts you will have to use...

and btw you don't have to drill anything to remove that plate underneath the tower..it will probably fall out when you remove all the shifter bolts....if it doesn't fall out,you just simply pull it out...

you use the drill to remove the threads in the holes in that plate so the new longer bolts will slide through them...the threaded part of that plate is metal, you just use the drill to get rid of the threads....your shifter will be secured by nuts which will hold just as well as that palte would...
