Good question. I replaced my deck and added the changer myself and found the sound to be comparable, if not better than the factory with the amp. If it is a jbl, then keep it. Why not? The amp I took out looked like crap so I junked it after asking a stereo shop if it was any good. They said it wasn't. You lucked out, I guess.

Do we really have to do the rating system?

I would venture to guess that he assumed it was a JBL amp when he saw the external amp. I've never heard of anyone recommending to keep the factory unit.

identifying the problem is fairly easy, but unfortunately, you have to take the door panels off to do it. take two of the door panels off and swap the speakers. If the problem switches to the new door, it is the speaker. If it stays at the driver door, then check the connections from the door to the HU. If the connections are solid, then it is probably the amp.

hope this helps.

Now I have another question. Looking through the crutchfield website and Canada's own Future Shop site, I've come across a dilemma. I know some people recommend the Infinity Kappas because the range is better than most subs I've seen thus far. Is that such a large issue? What I mean is, does the range truly matter? I've seen subs start at 18 hz to 150 hz (infinity) and others at 25hz to 500hz (Kenwood). Will the subs that start lower have more punch or the other way around?
Thanks for the guidance, as I will be buying 2 12's sometime this weekend.

Extended frequency range is fairly unimportant 99% of the time. Most subs are crossed over at under 100 hz. The exception to the rule would be the use of 8" in the front of the car. In this case, you could cross over the sub higher because localization when in the front of the car is not a bad thing. Crossing over a rear mounted sub higher than 100 hz will make the sub sound like it's coming from the rear.
