All new, apparently, although I heard Volvo V-60 rumors awhile back.

Nick and J are STILL talking about bringing in the Mondeo. The 500 announcement doesn't change that.

The use of a Volvo platform is strictly a rumor. If someone has proof then I'll believe it.

A good rumor, but still just.

One is a mid-size crossover - a tall-roof wagon with all-wheel drive that would compete with the Audi Allroad, the
Volvo Cross Country, the Lexus RX 300, and the Buick Rendezvous. Nicely trimmed out with the usual bells and
whistles, this new Mercury - call it the Monterey - will use the new Volvo-based D219 "cross trainer" platform that
previously had been earmarked for the Ford brand and will sell for a premium, yet still affordable, price of under
$35,000.

According to the Detroit News, Ford's turnaround for quality is working. And, no 2002 Foci were recalled. (Correct me if wrong) Also, no f ups for the new 2003 Expeditions being built now

If they f up again, guess what? They are done, so I think this time they may finally get it.
That's heartening to hear that thing's are getting a bit better. I still have my heart set on an Alfa 156 though. laugh laugh

Only if your out of your mind ("affordable"), what percentage of the population feel this is affordable? What ever it is, that percentage is shrinking rapidly.

$35K is the magic number. Gonna be tough for the Five Hundred in that market, though. Doesn't sound like it's aimed at enthusiasts - no MTX, "tall seating position," etc.

MArko you are afraid of a Ford and its reliability but you want a Alfa ??? Or for that matter any Italian car?
I hear ya I would love a 156GTA but I cant afford that and a second car to go with it!

Actually I heard that there was some rumors passed around form management that the next Ford factories that close would be those with the worst quality control. Probably just bull but a good idea none the less! Keep those workers honest!

Any Ford employess heard of this?

Either way Mondeo or F500 both look pretty good.

The $35K figure is for Lienert's imaginary Mercury "crossdresser" vehicle. The Ford 500 should be in the mid-twenties. I recently read that 97% of all new cars are automatics now. Maybe a "tiptonic" type will be offered.
