One is a mid-size crossover - a tall-roof wagon with all-wheel drive that would compete with the Audi Allroad, the Volvo Cross Country, the Lexus RX 300, and the Buick Rendezvous. Nicely trimmed out with the usual bells and whistles, this new Mercury - call it the Monterey - will use the new Volvo-based D219 "cross trainer" platform that previously had been earmarked for the Ford brand and will sell for a premium, yet still affordable, price of under $35,000.
