I've got three filters: a big K&N conical, an "off brand" conical, and a Ractive heat-shield filter (which looks tiny and restrictive; see pics in sig). I installed the Ractive to compare against the bigger filters and haven't noticed anything different other than more consistent runs. I've actually kept it on for about three months now, I may switch back in fall or winter.
As for the K&N vs. no-name, They may as well have come off the same machine. Not enough difference anywhere to warrant purchasing one over the other.
