After spend copious amounts of money, $1800 on maintainace for the Contour during the last 7 months. I have reached what might be the last straw. I blew a hole through the transmission today. I down shifted from 3rd to 2nd to turn into Walmart. No gear engagement at all. Red tranny fluid dripping out of a hole. Ugh!
PS The recent spots of oil in the coolant reservior has returned, not a dirty funnel, but probably a blown head gasket.
Engine and Tranny needed for a 98 with 120k miles, the car isn't worth the trouble. Stay tuned.
Sold 1998 Contour LX 13.868 sec 1/4 mile time.
Two years of rental cars, seriously.
Holding out for 07 Cobra Mustang.

I am making payments on a 2002 Ford Windstar. 4 more years, so I wanted to wait that long to buy another car, I was wrong.

Sorry to hear about that. Sometimes you just get a bad one. My 96 SE has almost 120k miles on it and she runs GREAT! But I guess that doesnt help you much

Yep i know exactally what happened. It happened to me; you did blow your tranny (duh), but it is repairable. What happened is a small bolt on your gear shifter in the top of the tranny broke off and dropped into the tranny (I can give you pics if you PM me), distroying at least the diff. It then tried (and successfully) made it's way out of the tranny case. If your willing to rip that thing off you motor on in your spare time and bum a ride to take it over to Terry's place, he can fix it very good. He'll weld the hole up, put new syncros in there (if needed), and replace the diff (the stock one he puts in there is CHEAP!) Unfortunately I didn't go his route (wish I would've), and I do think it's a good way to go. His labor is very cheep compaired to anyone else, so if it's worth it, go for it, if not, well you always have the "2000 dollars on anything...tow push or drag it here "
