Tnx for your thoughts. The truth is that I myself ain't got no established opinion about that. What I am trying to figure out is:

1. Illegal immigration - well, as the name suggests it it's illegal and an effective end should be put to it. True that most of the Americans won't agree to blow the leaves for $4.85 an hour, but come and think of it - if the employers KNEW that there is no Guatemalan cheap illegal labor available, maybe the situation were different.

2. English is a serious problem though. True that our country was established as a melting pot, but most of the early immigrants were strivin' to adjust to the norms and standards of the society, changed their names to sound it more American, etc. NOW, it seems that it's not necessary, everyone lives in their respective ghettos, and the only thing that many of the newcomers learned is the practice to whine and complain how hard and unfair the life in America is. I am not making it up, I keep hearing from my co-workers and my classmates how much more freedom was in Jamaica and how easier the financial life was in Malaysia, and how less hours ppl had to work in India.

3. The core immigration waves were originally from British Isles (mostly Ireland), and Northern Europe (Germany and less Scandinavia). In the 1880's 2 more powerful immigrant streams were added: Italy and Russia/Poland. After 1921 the immigration was greatly reduced, but after the WWII many of Eastern European immigrants were addmitted to the US. In the LBJ's days everything changed when a new Immigration Bill was passed; HOWEVER, the Mexican and other Latin American immigrants were nothing new for the US - they used to work as braceros or "wetbacks" (nothing deragatory about this, it hinted on crossing Rio Grande) for years between the WWII. Chinese ppl, Japanese ppl, Filipino ppl are all an inseparable part of America; however, is that normal that hordes of ppl from Arab countries, Pakistan, etc., are now changing the "landscape" of the country? I dunno. I really want to apply democratic prinicples and say it's normal, but I really can't... Am I a BIGOT?

Immigration or not, IT jobs are in the crapper. Stop immigration and even more jobs go overseas. Allow immigration and there's more H1B workers. Either way, I'm screwed.

I don't think that you are a bigot, I think you made good examples to support your reasoning. And your point to me is right. My thought is if those people love it so much more in their home countries then they should pack up and leave. Every country has it's problems, its what you do about those problems that makes you part of that country. If you do nothing but complain then you shouldn't live there, if you try to help solve the problem or even back one solution towards the problem then I believe you should be a proud citizen and people should praise you.
just my thoughts,
Johnny

True. My point is - being an immigrant myself - I really can't comprehend the ppl who live in America and still use every chance to critisize it. I am not saying that America is void of problems subject to critisizing, but ain't that called a sheer lack of gratitude to talk smack about the country that gave you refuge, salary, safety and whatnot? In my ENG101 class we were assigned to write an essay about freedoms in America. Believe it or not, the VAST majority of immigrant students tok liberty to point out every lil' and major problem or disadvantage characteristic to the US. Some claimed police brutality, some named lack of good social programs, some protested against American foreign policy. WTF? I am not trying to idealize the old waves of immigrants, but from what I read and studied - loyalty was almost universal. If everything is so bad, well, why not to use a part of money earned in America to buy a one way ticket back to their respective paradises?

So, do you blame the customers for not speaking English, or the business owner for catering to the non-English speaker? Why bother learning the language if your environment is adapting itself to you?

This may be off topic a little, but one thing that I don't get is in some states "whites" are not a majority, and yet the people of other races expect certain things from eveyone. If I am not mistaken our whole country was founded on the principal that all men were created equal. I know that their was the whole slave thing, but that has passed long since, and I believe that we as people can get past this and treat everyone the same. With ONE language and no need for racism. There shouldn't be Japan towns, Little Italy's or anything. I understand that there is a need for diversity, and people care about their heritage, but if none of the stores are anything I can read or understand then I think there is a slight problem.
I am not trying to offend anyone if I did

That is exactly what we do currently.

you bring up a good point. In Cali whites are not the majority, we are actually a minority. So I would like to know why do the whites in cali not get all the benifits that minorities do? In my honest opinion all of those minority benifits and such need to go away and just treat everyone as equals, since that is what we are. Yes the whites treated other races bad in the past, but we need to stop living in the past.
