Immigration is already restricted. Just look at the line at INS daily! The backlog is measured in YEARS!

The problem with that is that if these people had applied bfore coming to this country they wouldn't be standing in line now. A foreigner can apply for citizenship to the US without their country even knowing.

hey John Rocker, i assume by your emoticon that you are kidding .. or at least i hope so.

for one, the students at Ohio State whom you speak of are probably not interested in emigrating. secondly, they are probably investing more dollars into your education and your local economy during their stay at OSU than you are into any one of theirs. thirdly, i see no justifiable reason why foreign students should not be allowed to speak their native tongue in a public setting. your being bothered by this clearly speaks to your own insecurities and ignorance. in keeping with the tradition of attending an institution of higher learning, perhaps you should introduce yourself and get some kind of cultural exchange going. if that's so difficult, you can always find a seat at Bob Jones University where you'll find like-minded people.

I've got no problem with folks speaking their native tounge, just as long as they have no problem with doing business with our government in English.

While it is true that English is not our OFFICIAL language, it is the de-facto (hey that's probably not an English phrase, LOL) language used here.

So I really see no need to make US Government forms multi-lingual. Learn English or hire a translator and help our economy even more.

I have no problem with immigrants who legally enter our nation. I do have a big problem with granting any sort of recognition to those who enter the nation illegally.

Not to mention the National Security concerns of porous borders.

hahah, you just owned me. i never thought about those students being here only temporarily. if that is the case, then them speaking their native language is understandable. either way, i don't think (as mentioned) we should cater to people speaking other languages, such as people in dominantly mexican/spanish-inhabited areas having road signs printed in spanish also. also, i'm not overly insecure regarding others speaking languages which i don't understand, but i would like to know what they're saying

Yes there is no official US language, but every state has put it in their representitive constitutions that english is the offical language. I have no problem with people speaking another language in the US, but expecting the government and many businesses to change instructions to spanish is another thing. In certain places you find more spanish then english and it really pisses me off, just learn some of the language jeezzz.....

Not sure what your point is. One sign of a democratic nation is the ability of its citizens to leave at anytime, for any period of time, without the need for government approval (i.e. no exit visa required).

Well my point is that there is no need to immigrate here illegally as there are legal ways to accomplish the same thing. I am not sure where exit visas came into the picture, i was speaking of people wanting to come to the WS not people wishing to leave.

I have no problem with legal immigrants being in the country, especially if they learn the language. I think that the US shouldn't have to bend over backwards to learn other peoples languages. If they want to be here then they should learn, just as if I was to go to another country, I would be expected to learn their native tounge. What I don't understand is how we can have driving tests and such in different languages when every road sign is in english. And when some of the people who can't speak english do something wrong on the road they just say, "oh sorry I didn't know I couldn't do that" Just the other day some hispanic lady goes through the solid white line for a turn lane and nails this Vette in front of me. She thought it was the Vette's fault because she had her turn signal on, even though there was absolutely no room for her to merge. That's when I get really mad at how our society is run.

In my opinion we should restrict people coming into the country to so many a year. If you are found to be here illegaly send them back to their country(at their own expence). IF they come back and are caught shoot the f'ckrs. All government funded programs that waste my tax dollars on illegals needs to go away. AND poeople need to stop catering to all the immigrants, if they wanna be here make them learn our language, don't waste my tax dollars making a seperate set of forms in a language other than english.
