Should the immigration to the US be restricted? is there any real danger of changing the face and character of American nation as a result of immigartion? Should the immigration be at least restricted?

Tnx for your posted opinions.

If Native Americans had implemented this practise would the continent have been better off? Is that what you're asking?

Is immigration not restricted? I saw on television where Mexican people were swimming a river and paying a lot of money to get to the U.S.

Under legal means I see no reason to restrict it. I may be biased though since my wife immigrated here (citizen now).

Well my thoughts on the matter are that there are legal ways to enter the US and gain citizenship therefore we should be extremely tough on illegal immigration. Oh I can hear the whiners already "but the process for citizenship is too tough" I say oh f0cking well hundreds of thousands of people do it every year. I mean if a person isn't willing to put forth the effort to get citizenship then what makes anyone think that they would be a valuable addition to our society. I know that most of us don't have any claim to being true natives to this country but our ancestors had to go through alot more than filling out paper work and enduring the red tape that todays immigrants face.

Well I've tried to live in other coutries for extened amounts of time and the laws in other countries are much more strict. For example I tryed to get a residency permit and dual citizenship in Austria and was denied because they try to have only 25% or less of the population of the entire country's work force from other countries. It's not as easy to got to other countries as is it to come to the US. I do think that imigration should be a little more restricted just because you have people who work here taking the money they make off the US businesses and sending to their families in Mexico. The only problem I have with this is that that money is not being spent in the US. Now I understand why people do that, but these people are taking up jobs here in the US (perhaps doubtful if any american would do those sort of summer jobs) and then the money does not go back into the economy. I think this is my only reason for restricting it, plus we need to be more stringent on patroling the boarders. While it seems rather useless or Berlin-esq, its I think the best way to ensure that people are paying into the country they want to take money from.

i think that mexico and the U.S should open up their borders and just leave it at that. Not everyone will be rushing in and people can travel back and forth. the U.S and Mexico are united enought already the only thing keepin us from becoming one whole country would be the border. Think about it, being able to drive to cabos or Cancun or places like that without having to pay at the border (i think you have to pay, not sure tho).

i think one practice that should be implemented is that immigrants should be forced to speak english. then i'd be able to put up with immigrants ;D call me ignorant, or use the counter argument that there is no official national language (which is true), but we are obviously an english speaking nation and nothing fires me up more than hearing some japanese or chinese people speaking japanese or chinese. i don't know what it is about that, but it really fires me up. i get a lot of that at Ohio State, so i'm sure i'll learn to live with it.

Without getting into a socio-economic arguement on immigration (God knows that could go on for days) I will say it is a question of when and not if terrorists will cross the open borders and strike.

Why go through the trouble of obtaining a visa when you can just WALK ACROSS the border into America?

USAToday ran a great front page story just last week on how drug runners are entering the US through Indian reservations on the Mexican-US border. Would not take much for some jihad warriors to do the same.

Unfortunaly, every mile cannot be patroled but a better effort must be made to secure the borders.

Now, on the original point I will say that services provided to illegal immigrants are a drain on state and federal budgets. Just ask California. Illegal immigrants do not pay income taxes (it takes sufficient proof of citizenship or legal residency to legally hire someone, so you know the pay is under the table), which only compounds the problem.
