Without getting into a socio-economic arguement on immigration (God knows that could go on for days) I will say it is a question of when and not if terrorists will cross the open borders and strike.
Why go through the trouble of obtaining a visa when you can just WALK ACROSS the border into America?
USAToday ran a great front page story just last week on how drug runners are entering the US through Indian reservations on the Mexican-US border. Would not take much for some jihad warriors to do the same.
Unfortunaly, every mile cannot be patroled but a better effort must be made to secure the borders.
Now, on the original point I will say that services provided to illegal immigrants are a drain on state and federal budgets. Just ask California. Illegal immigrants do not pay income taxes (it takes sufficient proof of citizenship or legal residency to legally hire someone, so you know the pay is under the table), which only compounds the problem.
