Alright iread in mt owners manaul that my tank holds 16.1 gallons. okay so when the light comes on i still have like 4 gallons right? then why is it when i drive up the slightest incline today about 20 miles after the light comes on the car starts to spuder like it going to shut off. Then when i drive level or downhill it drives fine. Is the gas pickup too short or is all the way at the front of the tank. either way It just seems that if i have 16 gallons i should be able to use them and not only if im driving downhill. needles to say it shut off, and they guy behind me almost slams in the back of me(i put my emergency lights on)then honks as he drives bye.So now i have a two mile hike(uphill) to the nearest gas station. And all this happend about two hours ago after i worked 8 hours. O well iguess it was my fault for pushing my luck. But now i know. So to all of you out there that dont know, when the light comes on find a gas station!!!!

Isn't letting the fuel tank get that low bad for the injectors? Or is that just an old wives tale?

i don't know but i'm scandelous with my gas tank, i always fill it up with 94 octane but I also run to damn near empty. had my first bout with my SVT running out of gas last friday, the car just sputtered for a few blocks and eventually cut off. thank god a few ladies gave me a ride to and from the gas station laugh . But it was a little surprising because I really only drove it about 40 or so miles once the light came on. could have sworn that I've pushed it longer than that in times past.

Old wives tale. The fuel pickup is on the bottom of the tank, so unless you have some crap floating on top of the fuel in the tank, the stuff you suck into the fuel pickup is the same no matter what level the tank is at.

That said, it isn't really good for things to run out of gas. A rule of thumb: Never let any pump run dry.
