I'm surprised by how many people pull on Maximas once they hit 3rd. It's surprising to me because an average 5 speed 95-01 Maxima with a y-pipe, intake, and UDP typically runs 14.6@96mph which is quite a bit faster than most CSVT with the same mods. The fact that many Maximas get 96+mph traps vs a CSVT with similiar mods getting 94mph suggests to me that the Maxima has greater topend than the CSVT because it's pulling the CSVT on the far end. Are you guys raincg a lot of auto Maximas because it would make more sense to me. BTW, only 10% of the 95-01 Maximas on the road are 5 speeds.

My Maxima typically gains 22-22.5mph in the final 1/8th which means my car has some pretty strong pull on the far end. Most 99+ Mustang GTs only gain 20mph and even Lightnings usually only get 19mph. How much MPH are you guys gaining in the last 1/8 since that's one of the best ways to show true "topend" acceleration.

I cannot intelligently speak on the performance of the 2.5L Duaratec Engine, but I have personally ran up against three maximas. One was a 2002 from a rolling start and I was smoked. The second was a 98 SE that had a custom exhaust and ATX (thats it as far as I know), and I was with him all the way until 4th and I pulled away. The third was a 96 and the results were the same as with the 98 except it seemed I was stronger. It seems when I hit 3rd gear all the way to 70mph and shift to 4th it seems I get a lot of pull. I have know reason to lie. I am a little past the newbie make-up hipe (I'm 34 with a family).

I find these discussion both informative and interesting. All my meets with the maximas were in know way a cake walk. I like the maximas and think they are very nice cars.

My last time out to the track (last fall - a few mods ago ) netted around a 21mph increase from the 1/8 mile to the 1/4 mile. 75mph vs 96mph

I'm pretty positive I have one of the slower SVTs around. And I still make 18mph between the 1/8 and 1/4. I find it hard to believe a Lightning only does 19mph.

A roots blower lack of topend performance, 4600lb weight, and the aerodynamics of a smooth brick greatly reduce the Ligthnings ability to gain much MPH up top. The 1/8 mile is what makes them such great performers.

OK. I think I'll instigate a race with a Lightning from a 70mph roll. If this is true, I should stay close.

NOT!
