Ummm...sorry RainShadow but I can't let this kind of misinformation be spread,
This sub WAS built for the mobile environment. In fact, it was built for use in a 1.5 cubic foot cabinet. You can contact Aura to verify if you would like. About the magnet...well, this sub uses a pretty unique motor, not the typical earth magnets like Ferrite as most other companies use. The design is about 20 times as strong as ferrite, so therefore only needs to be 1/20 the size.
The 4" VC is a underhung design which will greatly reduce distortion. Will this sub outperform anything JL Audio makes, of course. JL isn't even in the same league. It comparing apples to oranges. When the W7 subs are released, they will be direct competition, not the W6 or anything else they currently have. It's really not even fair to compare because of the price. Do I think this sub is worth 1300.00? not in my mind it isn't. Do I think it is one of the better if not the best sub around? Without a doubt. I respect your right not to be impressed with it, but to substantiate your arguments with "look at the magnet" without any knowledge about it, then I have to correct you.
Oh, and please let me know the differences between the way a speaker is designed for home as opposed to the mobile environment...and how do those differences optimize the speakers performance in either environment.
BTW, do you know of a larger VC than 4" aside from the Phase Linear subs? This sub will be at it's best with a 1000 watts and high volumes. JL Audio's 18" sub has a 2.5" voice coil. Their W7 Supersub has a 3.5". Betcha they don't sound crappy either.
...what makes you think home audio equipment will not work in a car? Who do you think makes Diamond Audio Speakers? The answer is Eton...a home audio speaker producer. Where did the designs of Focals, Dynaudio, and Morel originate from?? Home audio....How about all of the megasubs on the market (eclipse, DD, Audiomobile, etc...)?? well, they got their designs from TC Sounds, which manufacturers subs for Krell and Sunfire among others...guess what, home audio again.
I think we do agree on one point, that it costs a lot of money and for 99.9% of the people there are better options. But if extreme SQ and output are your forte and you have the money, they are the sub for you.
Best regards,
Dave
