Probably moisture vapor (condensation). I wouldn't worry about it too much. You see this on commerical jets all the time when they first crank up the A/C before take off.

When you say you turn it off and back on, you don't actually put the HVAC control on Off do you????? If you do, don't. This is the worst thing you can do to you A/C and I imagine this is the reason why so many people have trouble with the A/C's. Just turn the HVAC to Vent or Floor when you don't want it on so it can cycle the remaining cold air through the vents and prevent it from freezing up.

no, i know better than that from my accord. i always put it on vent b/c the air coming out is still cold and it's less engine work IMO

You should always turn the A/C off before you shut the engine down. This gives it time to warm the piping and ducting back up so it does not pool corrosive condensation.

I'm sure the majority of the people do not do this, but it will greatly extend the longevity of all the components involved!

I ALWAYS turn off the A/C, defroster, vents, heat, whatever before shutting off my car. It just seemed good practice to me so I have always done it. I also never park/idle with my wheels turned.

Unless you want to get some practice with replacing head gaskets, I wouldn't recommend "flooring" any high-comp engine immediately after cold startup.

Waddaya know? I always do that, but never had a definite rationale for doing it. It just seemed "correct" to power down everything (radio included) before shutting down the engine.

I imagine that this also contributes greatly to pre-mature A/C failure as well as just putting the HVAC on Off to turn the A/C off.

That's all I have to say about that...

I definitely see what you mean. I suppose my wording was a wee bit vague. Sometimes I take certain things for a given...

I mean turn the "A/C compressor" off and leave the HVAC controls to a vent position.
I don't think I ever turn the HVAC controls off unless I want the fan to stop (since manufacturers years ago decided for us they want the fan running all the time) Hell I had to install my own A/C on/off switch even... (I love the bi-level setting and it's ONLY A/C - stupid Ford!)

I was at street fligh recently and in the programming it said the a/c turns off for 10 seconds at WOT (it was set at 10 sec). Does that mean that if you floor it for 2 seconds and let off, the compressor will stay off for the next 8 seconds or will the 10 second count down stop when you let off the gas?
