I would not run any crank pulley that removed the harmonic dampener! (I.E. any POS lightweight UDP)

Seems most professional engine builders would agree as well.

'nuff said. (Ahem - beaten like a dead horse - I.E. search!)

I would just like to say one thing. I have seen in person, an 8500rpm Duratec race motor in person, live and in colour. This engine once belonged to Chris Reinke and was once in his Contour race car. The engine was freshened by Kinetics Engines in Michigan, and is now being used in JR Racing's Contour Race Car. Where am I leading with this?

There is no crank harmonic damper on this motor and on the other end of the crank is a Fidanza flywheel. Why are they able to run these race motors at 8500rpm all day long, and all they have is a lightweight underdrive pulley? I have also seen Leo Capaldi's engine up close and personal, and it has a UD pulley too, and is prepped by Kinetics too.

Please explain.

Oh god let's not start another 1000000000 post thread about why a DMD is better than a UDP or why DMD this or UDP that...buy what you want, put it on your car and leave it at that.

The DMD is a given to me...that's not what I'm curious about. My question is about the other pullies included with a shoshop underdrive lightweight pulley set. I guess I'm trying to find out if they make any considerable difference or not. I don't want a three page lecture on the DMD either.

Because someone somewhere said that you COULD "VIBRATE" your engine to death with a UDP. Personally I"ve talked to many performance gooorooos and they have all recommended that I get something like the Unorthodox instead of the DMD.

Just curiouse how many 2.5L Duratcs have failed due to the harmonics?

I could care less if my engine life would have been reduced without a DMD or even if the friggin thing reduces my engine life or I loose X amount of HP. A DMD makes your car feel so much more refined. It is sooooo smooooth... That alone is the reason why I purchased one.

It would be pretty hard to tell if harmonics destroyed an engine in the first place. Lots of people just do it for the peace of mind... even though the proof may be lacking.....

Almost forgot... When you see a Duratec running on the Dyno with a DMD, the engine doesn't move..... Watching other cars on the dyno, all sorts of vibration and movement. Something else to think about.

Blah blah blah...Ok so enough about the DMD. Do the light weight pullies(other than crank) make a noticeable difference? Someone please for the love of cdw27's answer this question! Thanks.
