This morning I had a chance to burn off a top speed run on the *backstretch for the first time since my tranny rebuild. All was great, pulling hard right up to the redline, creeping up on 105 mph (5K or so on the tach in 3rd). All of a sudden the throttle cuts like it's rev limited or speed governed. Still had at least 1000 rpm till redline, but it just wouldn't go.

I backed off the throttle a bit, she shifted to 4th, and began creeping past 105 again. Floored it again, tach bounced at 5K. It wouldn't even upshift unless I eased off. Any ideas here?

Speed limiter...either get a custom chip or better yet, buy a SVT!

But it never did this before the rebuild. Understand that in 4th I can go up to 115 or so, and that's where the speed governor kicks in. But in third gear it won't upshift or accelerate past 5K on the tach. That's my problem. Like I say, easing off and letting it upshift to 4th will get me to 115, but obviously slower than if it was in 3rd.

You will need a superchip and this will raise the limiter to 7500 on all gears.


Speed Limiter
&
RMP REV Limiter

Not the same thang..;)

Yes, I know that. I guess I'm not being clear enough here: the motor pulls to the redline in all gears EXCEPT third. Not only that, but it WILL NOT SHIFT into fourth when floored. I have to let up on it, then it upshifts. From there on, as long as I keep the throttle at the right spot it will stay in 4th and slowly climb to 115.

I've run this car to the speed limiter a few times before and it was always strong up to the cutoff at 115. Never a problem upshifting from third at the redline. Now since the rebuild, this problem has come up.

I might have an idea what it would be: I had to disconnect the battery to change the plugs, if I didn't reset the computer properly would this have caused the malfunction???

I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just frustrated. I appreciate the replies though!
