I was looking around in the trunk while thinking of what I'm going to do with my system and i noticed a cut out in the back deck. At least I think it's a speaker cut out. What exactly is that for. If it's not their for any reason could it be used for a speaker?

it would make a good place to put a port, one of the guys that came to the dallas meeting(i cant remember his screen name) had a bandpass box built with the ports firing through that hole. He covered the hole with a grill from a 6x9. Hope that helps some.

I think i remember one of the guys/gals here saying that ford uses that hole to put a sub there for premium sound systems or something but they had to cut back cause of cost and ended up not using it for anything...something along those lines...i have the same thing in mine...

A. Van,

The music it makes is very good, but I need to fix the rattles it makes from the rear deck. In the spring I plan on putting some foam under it (with a hole for the speaker)and going from there. At closed window volumes I don't notice it until I get on the highway AND I want it loud.

I am very happy with the bass for the money I put into it. I just need to play with the crossover frequency a lot more because it doesn't blend well. I have a sound hole from about 80Hz to 250Hz right now. But the lows do punch.

The woofer was $50 an the amp was $80. Brother's help installing was piceless. But I cannot even see the amp or woofer unless I bend over (I'm 6'4" so maybe that's the problem).

I could go into more details, but I'll save the post. Let me know if you want more info.

is your sub in a enclosure or is it free air?

I was thinking of getting a enclosure made for two Kicker L7 8's and cut out another hole on the other side of the rear deck, then have the subs fire though the holes. I think it'll sound good...I think...

My woofer is free air which everyone said is bad. A friend of mine also with an SVT went with the JL Audio 8" enclosure and hung it from the rear deck. He had to add some support, but the spaker itself faces the back of the rear seat. We went differnt routes with the sub idea, both wanting to minimize trunk intrusion. As for the bass my friend was impressed and it doesn't sound boomy either. He did get a better amp with built in crossover for doors/sub. I'm just using caps & an inductor for now until I get the right freqency. Then I will get a 3rd order crossover.

As for cutting another hole in the deck, it wouldn't work for my 2000 because of the middle shoulder belt tensioner. For me, however, I think 2 of my woofers would not add to my environment, but I don't want a bass heavy system. I'd like to in the Spring check it with a sound meter. I leave the heavy bass to my home theater .

Your idea sound unique and should tak up too much space. You will have to add supports because the metal is very thin. I don't know how much bass you want, but you could try mouting just one in the existing hole, hook it up to the amp you'd use and take a listen. Just set the amp in the trunk and listen to it. If that isn't enough, then go one with your plans.

I don't know much about those speakers because I generaly don't buy into main stream equipment, but you can check out mine at http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Product_ID=7760&CATID=49.

I'm new to the forum posting so I don't know how to do the link. Just copy & paste.

I've gotten quite a bit of stuff for both my home and car audio from Parts express. A lot of DIY stuff.

I'm from the Detroit area. If you're close, maybe I can show you how I did it.

APT CSVT,

Finally, someone else who realized that you could buy the same or better quality by avoiding brand name car audio equipment. :-)

I am also from the detroit area. I was using a 12" Shiva in my contour but took it out temporarily and put the 2 10W6s back in. The Shiva is very similar to the 12" DVC that parts express sells. I don't ever plan on buying a brand name car audio speaker again.

dnewma04,

I think you'd agree that when it come to sound, only your ears matter. My brother got me into Parts Express. He custom builds everything stereo related. He encouraged a co-worker to buy that DVC 12" for his Mustang convertible. The 15" is a great deal, but requires something like 3x the enclosure volume. I am considering getting 2 of the 15" DVC woofers for my home sub, but have to wait on the money.

The predicesor (sp?) to the SVT was my wife's '91 Z24. I first installed an FM CD changer. Next were all new replacement speakers (got Sony's from Birch Run). Then added a new head unit tape w/ CD controller. That system was the best I've ever heard for such little money using no extra tweeters or woofers. When we picked up the SVT in July, even though my wife drove it to work, I couldn't handle listening to the stock system.

First I added some $14 surface mount tweeters from partsexpress wired in // with factory doors. Some velcro and I've already increased the imaging (since I sit so far back). Then the big event of the ext amp, woofer, HU replacement, and CD changer stolen from the Z24. It took quite some time (8 hours) to fashion a mount for the woofer and amp under the rear deck. I'm very happy with the looks.

Sound needs to be adjusted w/ crossovers, but I bought a house in September. Money is tight and time is tighter. Now it's just too cold to play with that stuff outside. Focus on home system.

Oh, and I find it very funny that Parts Express sells our factory replacement 6x8 speakers for $2 a piece .

I live in Sterlig Heights, but work in Dearborn. Maybe we can get together some time to check out each other's systems. I'm always open to suggestions.

Aaron
