announced that they are importing the CL65 (thats right, 65, not 55) AMG, as well as a SL65 AMG, and maybe the S65 AMG. These cars features V12's putting out more that 600 HP and more than 720 ft/lb of torque. My question is, who is going to buy a Mercedes SLR when you can get a faster and cheaper Mercedes (SL65 AMG)?? Besides less weight, what else does the SLR got going on?

PS: They are doing away with the C32 AMG, and creating a C55 AMG (N/A). Amazing!!

Man, Mercedes is getting out of hand! BMW needs to up the ante on the 760 with a performance tune.

Until BMW starts using forced induction, I don't think they have a chance in this HP war. By the way, this information came from this week's Autoweek, the one with the Chevy SSR on the front cover. The next M5 will have 500 horses, but from a v10, so they match up well with the e55 amg, but your right, the 760il will need a LOT more power to compete with the s60, before it can even think of competing with the s65 amg.

But isn't that the cool thing about BMW. They don't have to used Forced Induction to get their cars to move. They engineer their vehicles to FI levels without FI and blow away the competition(well besides the RS6 )

I have always held them in high regards for keeping things n/a at levels that a lot of other manufacturers have to use f/i to meet. Unfortunately that won't win any sales though. I don't care if the s600 has turbos or not, it flat out hauls ass. Btw, did it mention a price? The s600 is iirc $125,000 (about the same as a 760). The m5 should make a splash if they can keep the price to around 80-90K.

I'd rather they import the AMG CDI model they just came out with.

after driving the C class this weekend and going around a couple hot laps with a C32 AMG, i am convinced that mercedes has top notch products with even an even more exclusive product line than BMW, IMO.

i would love to see something like an E65. i think the size of the E class makes it very desirable for a wide range of buyers. but for me, the C32 is a super machine. i could definitely see myself in one.

It's not like BMW doesn't have experience in forced induction. Their F-1 engine in the turbo era was known for exceptional HP, especially in qualifying trim. Before they started restricting the turbos, the other teams claimed that BMW's engine was making somewhere around 1500 HP (for about 5 laps) from 1.5 liters! 1000hp/liter! Now, let's apply some of those principles to a 6 liter 12.....

Nice car, eh!

I've rode in one and I was hooked from Day 1. The pull that it has in any gear is simply astounding.

It's the only automatic I'd ever consider owning and I've been on the fence about purchasing one for close to 4 months now.

If they are killing it off in favor of another rocket, I may shelve my lust until I get a look at what they are offering.

I'd kill for MB to start offering manual transmissions on AMGs here stateside...

um... every C Class is avalable in a 6 speed manual except the wagon with 4MATIC.

that includes the C32 AMG.

also, the SLK 230-k, SLK 320, and SLK 32 AMG are all avalable with the 6 speed manual.

looks like they've been listening!!!
