i just ordered one of those performance mod chips off of ebay it was like 10 bucks and it claims to add 15-20 hp without any problems or voiding any warranties. does anyone know if these actually work? was it worth ten bucks or did i get ripped
1999 Contour Vetech 5 Speed.

It is simply a resistor (that can be bought at Radio Shack for less than $1) spliced inlne to your IAT sensor.
It tricks the ECU into thinking the air is colder than it actually is,
and therefore the ECU adds gas.

hmmm will that ruin my engine in anyway???

a long time from now...sounds like it burns gas faster and thats definitely not good for me.

It depends if the resistors are the wrong values for the outside air. See what this gimmick attempts to do is to trick the ECU into thinking that the incoming air is actually cooler than it is. So when the ECU sees this, it adjusts differing things in the ECU PCM chain, first off with the timing. Remember, you DO NOT want your car to ping if you can help it! If you put this mod on and your car pings, if you like the performance you get, try higher octane gas. If it still pings, then you are going to damage your engine in the long run. IE put holes in your pistons...not good.
Remember if it sounds too good to be true, it sometimes is.
Remember also that nobody is a tuner overnite. Do your homework first even with $10 mods. Ask questions, search here and follow-up constantly.
