I have a catback "fart can" exhaust sytem. It gave me the horsepower i needed, and i had my reasons for choosing the canister exhaust. My car is fairly loud now, and people will look at my car and wonder why its so loud, i would rather them see a shiny fart can and go oh, its one of those ricey exhaust systems, then have them go, haha look at that poor sap who can't afford to fix his broken muffler had i run straight pipe. Stop bashing everything that doesn't fit your style.

I get pretty irritated with the rice drivers as well, and some of the things that these people do to their formally-decent cars are absolutley ridiculous. But in the end, you have to say to each his own. There are hundreds of things you can make fun of though, and I find this entertaining. Like the decals with colorful slogans such as "WICKED RYDAH" or "THUG PIMPIN'" or "I LIKE SOUP" are plastered to the front windshield. A sticker that spells out the vehicle manufacturer's name in 140-point white font is adhered to the back window so everybody else in the world knows that the Toyota being driven is, in fact, a Toyota. I don't understand the coffee can exhaust pipe phenomena...People these days seem to equate loud exhaust with horsepower. I have never seen a Contour riced out, but I have seen a Mistique driving around here with one of those Boeing 747 wings on the back, and let me tell you, the wing gives the impression that the car is twice the length that is really is, therefore making it ugly as hell. I can't sympathise with your stereo complaints however, because I am about to put a system in my 'tour, and it will be loud as hell..

I think there is a big split in the people that drive 'tours. I am only 19, but seem to identify with the older generation who like having a "sleeper" car, as well as something that doesn't look like a toy next to a BMW. The contour is not that well known, and while some growl would be nice, the exhaust is nice quiet, because (w/o any badges except blue oval on grille) I often get mistaken (mostly by 100hp civics with wings and canister exh.) for an escort or taurus, and then show them that I have 70% more horse than their fast-looking economy car. Maybe I should put that oval on the back, for the Honda drivers... Anyway, the other group wants a car that looks "cool", and sounds like it has a huge engine, but it seems if you want a car for rice-burner then the Contour is not for you, as any of the typical mods (big rear wings for decreasing tire pressure on the drive wheels the most commmon) look really awful on a smooth, round, long car like the 'tour. Get a Jetta or some Honda, or better yet, a Mustang.

i agree with the spoiler thing, that is retarded that they only want it for looks, but fords with never be ricers cuz they are ford...thus making them american, i dont understand why we would want our contours to look totally like that, but i myself would love to have more curves on my tour, i have a 96 SE and i want it to run and look like and SVT, anything wrong with that?
