I was thinking of replacing (in a 98 SVT) the factory components with a Blau Casablanca receiver and Pioneer 6 X 8 speakers. Should I buy two-way or three-way speakers? and will this operation actually help the sound or will the low down, door speaker slots plague the mid-high range sounds?

You are sure to get a lot of responses on the door speakers. I personally cannot recommend Pioneer 6x8s based on my own personal experience with them. If you do get them, you should definately get the 3ways. I had 2 pair and the sound quality wasn't much better than stock. The tweeters blew out in less than a year and they were only powered at 45watts rms(rated wattage). I replaced them with Cerwin Vega 5x7/6x8s and the difference is incredible. The CVs have much better mid-bass and the highs are much clearer.

Just my .02

If you are going Pioneer I would get the
2-way 6855.

But, I have to admit I think three way coaxially mounted speakers are a joke.
IMO some may sound smooth but no where near accurate. 2 tweets and 2 woofers is all I need for my car to sound as good as my home system. Yeah, it cost the same too.

That's me, you may be differrent so I would listen to both speakers off axis as it would be in your car.

That sounds reasonable, but I can definately say that the Cerwin Vega 3-ways sound tremendously clearer and put out much better voice definition than the pioneer 6855s that were in my car! The pioneers sound "decent" but the mid-bass they provided was about average and only slightly better than stock. I guess it depends on the music your going to listen to. I listen to almost all types of music and if your listening to bass I don't think you would notice a difference between the 2 vs 3 way speakers. Dance, pop and techno are a totally different story. This is where you will notice the biggest difference.

These are just my observations. They do not come with any warranty!

I also would not use Pioneers in the fronts. The 6815s had decent bass and midrange but the treble was muddy and too bright. I'm fixing to replace the fronts with a set of Polk components. They work fine in the rears though.

You lucky dog! I thought I did well when I bought mine on sale for $97 a pair, also at Best Buy. I did get a good deal on an open box buy on my PhotoSmart printer at Best Buy. It was a regular 399 and I got it for 250!

I put a set of Polk Audio 5X7s in my front and rear doors. They fit nicely and sound great. The best deal was that I got them at Circuit City...Buy one pair get one 1/2 price. I believe this sale is still on.
