Fidanza's come with steel billet replaceable friction inserts in which you replace and not regrind.. they are only about $40 when you do need it..which wont be for quite some time.

thanks

The only problem is the RAM clutch I have requires the surface of the flywheel to be ground, or prepared. Since its a steel billet insert, then that shouldn't be a problem I suppose.

That is if you reuse your current flywheel.. not a brand new one. When reusing a used flywheel it is a requirement to resurface it.. like brake rotors..

new brak rotors= no resurface
new flywheels = no resurface..

I believe they said that only if you use your current flywheel..

also be careful.. RAM or Grizzly.. don't know which one has a terrible track record concerning the MTX-75.

Well those that have bought RAM clutches have said they love them, but only with their stock flywheel I know Dustyn has tried it with the fidanza, but it wouldn't get past the green period and just slipped whorably. RAM told me in an email that no matter what flywheel I get, to have the surface grinded, even if it's new.

I dont see how it couldn't work with the fidanza as long as I had that friction surface insert grinded or I used sand paper to rought it up so the clutch properly beds?

Are you saving so much money on the RAM that your willing to go through all that trouble of having to resurface a NEW flywheel.. wow..whats that say about the clutch.

If money is a concern I would go with a Spec Stage I and save the trouble and money on resurfacing a new flywheel that shouldn't have to be resurfaced to begin with.

It's up to you though.

Well I bought the RAM clutch off a fellow CEG'er for $100, so there's no sending it back. If I ditch it and get another clutch we're talking at least about $350 more I'd invest in this project for a new clutch, not to mention the $100 I blew on the RAM clutch that would go out the window. An extra $450 is quite valuable to me so if I can get this RAM clutch to work with the Fidanza with a quick grind to rough up the surface material, then rock on!

I'm awaiting word back from RAM clutches to verify and get their feedback....

Welp, here's my response from RAM clutches:

Quote:

Ryan,
Its not all that complicated and you are thinking correctly. If you
have
the insert ground it should work fine. My comments stem from the fact
that
we have had several users of their fw and our clutch with slippage
issues,
and it is always traced back to the non-surfaced insert. In every case
when
the users put the stock flywheel back in, the clutch held fine.

Thanks,
Mike

Subject: RE: Flywheels to use with my RAM clutch?

Mike, first off thanks for your help!

I'm getting alot of conflicting advice from some other
guys on the CEG forums (www.contour.org) and am kind
of confused. I want to hear what you have to say,
since I have a RAM clutch and want to do whats best.
Here's my situation:

I have a RAM clutch ready to go, just need to decide
on a flywheel. I'd love to get the lightest flywheel
that everyone's raving about (Fidanza) but there's
been problems with slippage. However, I haven't heard
one report of those guys grinding the steel billet
insert on the Fidanza first (before installation of
the new clutch), which I know you require for your
clutches to bed properly. So I'm kind of stuck, and
being a noob, very nervous, but I want the best in the
end for performance.

I've been thinking about it, and to the best of my
noob thinking ability here, I cant imagine why the RAM
clutch wouldn't work with the Fidanza flywheel as long
as I have that friction surface ground (using the
"blanchard grinding" process mentioned on the
website). I mean the insert is billet steel, same as a
full blown billet steel flywheel right? How would the
clutch know the difference? As long as I grind it, it
should work right?

I guess worst case I go with that ShoShop unit, but
it's 6lbs heavier than the Fidanza and about $30 more
expensive too. But I can't figure out what the
difference is going to be since the steel isert on the
Fidanza is billet steel, which would be the same
material the clutch would encounter with the ShoShop
flywheel right?

I'm really lost Mike, thanks for any and all
help/explanation!!!

Ryan

So count me in on the Fidanza, I'll just get the surface ground with hatch pattern so my new clutch will be guaranteed to bed properly.
