I found Redline MTL online from

www.myoilshop.com

for $7.00 per quart, plus shipping was $5.58 FEDEX.

The closest Redline distributor was 80 miles away so I figured I'd burn $5 in gas just getting it.

Be careful, most of the online places are charge $8-$11 per quart. One other place wanted $7.65 per quart, but wanted $11.70 in shipping for just 3 quarts!!
Shipping is where they recoup their money I guess.

Yes.

That's Ford's "relatively" New for the US "honey colored fluid". (First Stateside TSB was 12-99 and it has been European spec for years)

Basically a synthetic 75W90 gear oil made for manual transmissions...

Yeah, I've been putting it off for too long.

I tend to have an impulsive, point-and-shoot mentality about these kind of decisions

I also ordered it from them. Good service, the box is here now. I gave them Toms name when they asked where I heard about them. I'll be supprised if it can improve the shifting much as I have Redline D4 ATF and their friction modifier now. It's in there for approx. 40K so it's time to change. Just hope it quiets the gear noise I hear at low speeds.

I finally got my redline fluid in two days ago. I changed the fluid today. I drained the GL-5 fluid out and then I used some standard ATF to clean out the gear oil. I ran the car a little while at idle, in forward and reverse gears to circulate and mix with any remaining GL-5 fluid. Then I drained that too.
Afterwards I added about 2.5 quarts of Redline MTL. It sort of smells like a gear oil but is thinner, almost like ATF. However it feels much more...oily I guess, slicker than standard ATF.
Now I have noticed that the transmission sounds the same as with the GL-5 fluid, that is to say QUIET!
With the ATF+ 2oz of FM in it it was noisy and sounded like it was grinding away. When I drained the ATF there was a fine metalic sheen to it from hard part wear though it was a new diff so that is going to happen anyway.
Anyway, the fluid is the correct type and so far I still do not hear any noise so I feel really good now.

Just put Redline MTL in it and call it good eh...

Have you EVER put the 160 T-stat in yet!!! Nag, nag, nag I tell you...
What's it going to take to let you realize 2-3 free octane points???

Hey, I got the redline finally! I'll get there eventually.

As far as the transmission, yeah, I'm going to call it good. If it breaks then it breaks. I'll get a used one and do it up right now that someone I know has the correct tools. Besides, it works beautifully and no noise anymore. I take that back, it does still have that slight final drive whine at certain speeds, though I don't remember if it was there before the diff or not. Anyway, the diff is working like its supposed to and the transmission still shifts like a knife through butter. The clutch has actually broken in quite nicely now though I have to say when its hot you have to be carefull how fast you let it out...it threatens to snap my neck off if I let it out quick. At least I can slip it now that I'm used to it.

Thermostat? Whats that? I'm just lazy. My turbo is located pretty close to that T-stat housing and I may have to unbolt it to properly change it out. I'll do it eventually. Right now I'm just happy that the car seems to be doing so well. It almost feels like I could have bought it this way now. This current reburn on the chip is running really good. I have the emanage off still right now so the pcm can adapt, then I'll start looking at fuel trims at various speeds so I can see how the new MAF function I made is working. So far though it looks good and I've got no CEL's even though the eManage is not active.
I think you would really like to drive this thing around as a daily driver now...It is smooth and fun and powerfull when you want it. The problem is all the other cars are afraid of it now...no fun little stoplight jaunts against other cars.

Tom
