That's a typo. Maybe 220 KPH. I read in another article where it was 124 MPH.

BBC said he hit 360kph or 220mph just after jumping at 30,000 feet. His cruising speed, however, was in fact slower.
EDIT: and I guess Red Bull really does give you wings!

Yeah, that makes sense. At first drop, the air is pretty thin, so there was much less wind resistance. Of course, that means he dropped like a rock because there was not enough air going over the wings.

According to the article I saw he hit 217 m.p.h. . That is entirely beleivable due to the fact that average terminal velocity in a skydiver is 120 m.p.h. and can hit up to 200m.p.h. in head down flight.
