The Catholic Church is not Anti-Gay, they're just anti Gay Marriage. There's a big difference. They're probably one of the few, if not only, major religions that officially believe that Homosexuals are born that way. The current Pope simply believes it is morally wrong to allow them to marry.
Morals change significantly over time, as does the Pope. Even the Catholic Church will allow them to marry in even the foreseeable future once it's made fully legal in the US.
