OK, I'm going to be the "devil's advocate' here as ask why you shouldn't use Bosch platinums? I have the +4's in my SVT and they work pretty well.....my last tank of gas, i had something like 27.3 MPG with mixed highway/city driving....that's pretty good in my book....

Most folks have had Bosch's fail quickly and badly. Myself included (and I knew better then to use them even if they were free )
I have heard nor had nothing but bad experiences with Bosch plugs on nearly any real performance car. They are just garbage plugs IMO.
Dropped electrodes, melted electrodes, exploding porcelin tips, etc, etc...

Aren't the Bosch plugs more expensive too? I got autolite double plats and they rock.

I installed Bosh platinum + 4's in mine and my buddies contours. Combined 30,000+ plus miles ,over 300 miles per tank and no problems. Maybe its not the plugs. Though I do think Denso Iridiums are problay the best, just maybe overkill and to pricey for most applications.

Well, so much for me being the "devil's advocate".....After reading this thread (and many others under the search function), I decided to yank one of the Bosch's and check it out for myself. while the electrodes weren't melted, they certainly were worn!! I went out to Autozone and picked up a set of Autolites and put those in (with a .054 gap). I have to say that these are a marked improvement...not a huge one, but one none the less. i figure after a few tankfulls of gas, I should know whether or not this swap has done anything to appreciably help mileage. For 5$+ per plug, i guess I would have to agree with others who say stay away from Bosch's! To have that much wear(within 20k) on a "platinum" plug is unacceptable.

Fords just don't like Bosch plugs. Plain and simple. More people have problems with them then not in a Ford. Don't ask why, I'm not an electrical engineer.
All I can tell you is that I've seen plenty of first hand experience (mine & others) to say you can't beat the stock Ford plugs:
- Personal experience includes 5 Merkur XR4Ti's over 15 yrs. I pulled a set of Bosch Plats and replaced with Fords to fix the crappy running SOB's.
- My mechanic of almost 20 years (a Certified Ford Master Mechanic, Ford Shop Foreman, and in his spare time Subaru fly him around the world to wrench on their WRC rally cars) has seen more problems with Fords running Boschs than any other plug.
- The International Merkur Owners Network (an internet forum for XR4Ti's - 2.3L Turbocharged Fords from 1988 to 1998 - could never find a better plug than the stock Ford one for any XR4Ti running less than 240-260 HP. Bosch were notorious for giving the XR4Ti's problems.
- I have never seen any evidence (perhaps someone here could provide some) that any plug could out do the stocker.
Why pay more for the same or less?
Spend your money where there are proven results.
The majority of complaints I've heard from Ford owners running Bosch plugs is that they seem to run a little flatter, just not quite as much punch as the Fords. Some, myself included, have had real drivability problems.
I've got a set of the Bosch +4's in my SVT that Josh put in a few months before he sold it to me and they'll be replaced soon with Ford plugs even though they've only got about 10k on them. Anyone want to buy them?
Lets see now, if I can get 50% for them I'll have almost enough for a discounted set of stock plugs. If anyone wants to throw some money in the dyno test pot (all I'd need would be 40 @ $1 each ) I'll run a back to back dyno on the two .
