I actually think the tag is a better idea than the license plate because the plate stays on the car and there is no way to conceal you might be handicapped with that thing on there.

Using the tag means you don't have to tell the world (and also the car jackers, muggers, etc) that you are disabled until you park.

That just may be the discriminator that gets you picked out of the sea of humanity on the roads for the next crime.

Of course, there is the whole issue of how much of your field of vision those tags block.

If you are so handicapped that you can't read the tag and follow the directions that say don't drive with this hanging from your mirror, then you shouldn't be driving.

I think the police should start pulling over those folks and get 'em off the road.

I had one old guy with the hanger about run into me because he was turning left in the left-most of two left turn lanes, and I was in the rightmost left turn lane (clear huh?), and then he wanted to immediately turn right. After he about clips off the front end of my car, I follow him into the parking lot and gave him a piece of my mind.

His wife has the audacity to ask me what my problem is, and I say that after he just about takes off the front of my car because him getting to Steak'n Shake is more important that safe driving you and he need to learn some road manners. Then I remind him about the tag and she comes back with something to the effect of "Well, my husband is old and handicapped, so he can use the tag and he's doing the best he can." I tell him if what I saw was his best he needs to hang up the keys now, and the tag really isn't helping his driving or his vision, and perhaps he could have someone who can see read the instructions to him since he either can't follow or can't read the simple directions, can't plan ahead for a turn at a red light, and then makes a selfish decision to cut someone off instead of going down the road and turning around. I told him I hope he decides to quit driving before he kills someone like me, my wife or my children.

Ahhh, I feel better after that rant.

Never mind that this is also a major cause of brush and forest fires. That might not apply to a lot of you, but here in the mountians it is a big issue. There are signs posted to NOT throw butts out the window!
