Just as Lardy said...the reason that you are supposed to break the circuit on the hot wire is so that you are sure you are cutting the power to the device. The way you have it now, the circuit could find another ground and become active. Only risk here is that if it did find another ground, it could spark and possibly start a fire. I'd rewire it if I were you.
