Originally posted by fingas: Originally posted by Pienstars: Fingas, Thx for the info. I'll take your advice and sight it in from 100 yards next time I go to the range and hopefully I'll be all set. The funny thing regarding the recoil is that this gun already has a supportive pad on the back but it still hurt pretty bad after just a few shots. Can the pad your talking about be put over the one my gun already has, and where can I get one? Thx.
I got mine from Natchez shooters supply. I'm not sure what your current butt pad is like but pachmayr makes alot of different recoil reducers and handgun grips. The new lightweight Taurus revolvers come with pachmayr grips that take alot of bite out of the lightness of the gun. When i changed out my butt pad the recoil went from being a sharp kick to my sholder to being a more prolonged push which doesn't hurt as much. You won't be shooting much on a hunting trip but as i said before there is no substitute for practice and if you make practice hurt less then you won't develop a flinch. The pad i am talking about will replace the current one or they also make a slip on if i am not mistaken. If i get a chance later i will try to find a link for you to the specific one for your gun if they make it. If they don't make one for your specific rifle they do make some that can be cut to fit. Hope all of this helps you.
I just found their website and I might look into one. Like you said I wont be shooting it much on my hunting trip, actually just once would be great, but I would like to continue to practice with it. I think i'm also going to buy a small caliber rifle to do some target shooting with. Damn this is like tattoos, get one and your hooked. Thx for your help.

Hint, hint...

You shoot the big toys, make sure you armor your shoulder against the kick.
You'll thank me later. They feel a bit odd at first, but once you get used to them, there's no going back.
I've got an early vest that they used to make. Makes 12 gauge hi-brass feel like a .410.

You ever go hunting? Do you realize you can't just jump in a tree and sit there and think a deer will come to you. First of ya'll you have to prepare stuff nearly year round, plant food plots, put corn out, cut limbs and paths and stuff. You end up feeding more deer than you kill. It's just the same as eating cow, pig, chicken, whatever, except it cost a little less, is exiciting, and helps control the deer population. You ever eat deer? It tastes way better than just about any store bought meat you can get. If you're a vegeterian, than you're missing out on some good eating.

Nah, like any decent hunter, he comes up to our great state to hunt That's one helluva drive, though.
A lotta people come from florida to hunt deer in georgia. You can always tell it's them because they drive nice new trucks with 2 four wheelers on a trailer while all us georgia hunters drive beat up trucks.

I don't mean to hijack the thread (i think it might've been already though ) but I'm also getting a new rifle very soon. It's a Steyr Pro Hunter SBS. Mine will be a 308 in all black.
