For the alternator, check out this from the Archives. A friend of mine had a bad alternator in her 99 SE Sport and took the page from 99blacksesport with her to the shop. The guy who did the work found that page useful. this page

If you do it yourself read it all, if you take it somewhere, print it out and let them have it.
