When I first turn on my air conditioner in my '98 Contour ES, it smells REAL bad. I know one time I had a full beer can rolling around on the passenger side back floor (damn kids, anyway  ) and it rolled under the passenger seat and was punctured, causing it to spray under the seat. Well, I cleaned it all up with soap and water and let it dry, then sprayed the floor with Febreeze. I've sprayed and sprayed the Febreeze on all the carpet, front and back, and still, every time I turn the air conditioning on it smells like stale beer. My question: where the heck is the inlet to the air conditioning when it's on "Max" (recirc). Isn't it up front under the dash? How can I get the smell out? You'd think if it sucked up the fumes of the beer, you could get it to suck up the fumes of Febreeze! Thanks for any input.

Fabreeze is a temporary fix. You may need to shampoo your carpets - not too big a deal. When done, spray them & under your seat with some Lysol. You may need to do that a couple of times.
The intake vent can be sprayed with Lysol too. This will give your car a nice fresh scent which will be kinda strong at first, but it'll dissipate after a couple of days.
The Lysol in the intake vent works well for cars that have been driven by smokers. It takes a couple of treatments for heavy smoke deposits, but it has worked for me.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Thanks, TDF, but that brings up part of my original question. Where is the intake vent?
Actually, it just occurred to me that I could probably get up off my a$$ right now nd climb under the dash and find it myself!
(But, in the event I don't find it, feel free to respond!)

Not that I'm a brewmeister or anything, but given the ingredients in beer, you may want to find out if whatever you use to shampoo your carpets will also have to kill an active yeast colony.
Ditto for the Lysol in the air intake. If you do have a - uh - yeast infection, it's possible the spores have found their way into your ventilation ducts.

You do make an interesting point, though, so I'll definitely give the Lysol thing a shot.
And truthfully, bk, I didn't even know there was a cabin air filter. I've only had the car a couple of months and have never owned a Contour before, so I'm still getting to know the thing!
I'll have to look around and see if I can find the cabin filter, although I didn't have a hell of a lot luck when attempting to find my air conditioner inlet. I thought I'd located it under the dash in the center behind the console, but when I turned the air conditioner on max high, and held a little piece of paper in front of it to check for flow, the paper didn't move much. I suppose if I spray Lysol into it and can smell it coming out of the vents then, by God, I've found it.

Check the contour.org howto's for help on changing the cabin filter.

Actually, the yeast are already dead. Once the beer is refrigerated, they become inactive.

It's under the winshield wiper cowlbehind the hood. I bought my filter from Pepboys, and was breathing better instantly.

Depends on the beer. Some beers (imports, generally) have live yeast.
So, as the brand of beer wasn't mentioned ... Well, you get my drift ...
