I finally installed my first amp and it does ok, but turns off after about 20 min then come back on in about 5 min. I'm not sure how to fix it so I came to you guys for help. The amp also gets really hot, I dont think its supposed to do that. Its a mtx thunder 2160 I got used of ebay. I have it laying next to my 10" bandpass sub box. Should I mount it different? Also its grounded to a bolt and nut I put in a hole in the rear deck. I sanded it the best I could with a filer and knife, I'm going to get some sandpaper and sand some more today. It also might be the main fuse at the battery. When I was installing the power wire I tighten the fuse holder too tight, and the glass on the fuse broke. The metal on the inside was fine, so I went ahead and used it. Could that be causing the overheating? It was a 8ga wire kit from knukonceptz, what kind of fuse from autozone would replace that?

The writing on the amp is faded so I can tell what each knob does. I had the both at halfway, but you barely heard it in the cabin, and it still would cut off. I turned it up and now you hear it, but it will cut out when its hot. There's a push button that says x-over and I have it on but I dont know if it works. I also cut the bass to the nonfading out on my hu at 80mhz and turned the nf lvl up to about +5 so I could keep the gain and bass boost on the amp lower. Should I set it up different.

I tried to give you as much info as I can, so you'd be able to pinpoint the problem better. Tell me what you think is wrong.
