I've installed a Blaupunkt Florida CD receiver in my '00 Contour, bypassing the "premium" sound amp behind the glovebox. Should I take the amp out (it looks relatively heavy and I hate to drag the weight around for the life of the car), or does it still perform some structural or electrical function in the car (so many things set off the CEL that I'm halfway afraid unbolting the amp would make at least five warning lights come on on the dash). Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

actually, i had removed mine to look at it, and amazingly, it doesn't weigh very much at all. I was surprised by how light it was. I too bypassed mine and decided to just leave it in there.

I'm probably going to leave it in just in case I decide to put the stock head back in if/when I sell the car. I was curious how heavy it was, but expected it to be a lightweight since it was clearly junk in the first place.

Yep, it's quite light, which didn't surprise me considering how s***ty it sounded. Build quality was the equivalent to the sound quality.
