That section of the service CD shows how to remove the electrical switch. The ignition cylinder is what is at issue here.

The solenoid was unplugged with no change in symptom. The issue appears to be excessive mechanical wear in the cylinder itself.

Seriously, why don't you take the easy route first with the graphite method I mentioned earlier.

Seriously, my service CD doesn't have that passage!

Thanks for posting it. Does your's identify the "retainer" as to what it looks like or is located?

Also, what is the section number so I can doublecheck mine?

Sect 211-05 Steering Column Switches > Removal & installation > Ignition switch lock cylinder.

Screwdriver shown inserted from above, perpendicular to column axis. Sorry, unable to post diag.

Horseydug:

Neither my 98 or 99 Service CDs contain that section (????)

My 95 Service CD does have instructions, however the design is different.

These are the only CDs in my library as I do not have the 96, 97, or 00 CAR disks.

I would like to obtain a printout of the picture you have either by fax or by mail. Would you mind dropping me a line either by PM or to the e-mail address listed in my profile so I can make arrangements to cover any out of pocket expenses you might incur?

Thanks,

Steve
