hey loudest i have been competing for about four years and i just got my stuff finished on my contour and if you are gonna compete in spl you need to drop. i am not dissing your system in any way but the thing is you have people that do mods to their amps and they get them under-rated. that just means that they can compete in a lower class and kick your ass. i have had it done a couple of times to me and i was just like f*** this ill do sq. its just a suggestion and if you have a burning desire to do that well then go ahead but your in for alot of head aches and a lot of wasted money. by the way if you wanna see pics of my system ill post em for ya. oh you might wonder how i know about the under-rating well thats what my amps are. im only running 300 watts through my whole system. good luck

Riopoopie,

If I'm not mistaken doesn't IASCA use the amps rated power into a 4 ohm load? They also use the HU power even if you are not using it. That's why high current amps are so popular. I heard about a year ago that they were going to be changing the rules to level the playing field a bit. Don't know if it ever happened or not.

You have i am sure heard about the "birth Certificates" well thats a loophole that IASCA cannot find a way around. that is how some people get a 300 watt class when in all logic they are suppossed to be put in a 1000 watt class. If your sponcered by lets say Alpine they will give you the shell of a 25x4 but it will be one of their 60x4. i have seen it done and all it does is piss me off cause i couldnt ever seem to beat them. by the way if you wanna cut down on cabin noise you need todo the rear pannel as every one says and you could (if you have the money) have your dash taken off and the will sprey Line-X on the inside metal and that will take away most or all noise. you also can do it to your trunk and doors. i had mine done for free but i am sure it will cost a pretty penny

The solution that I heard proposed was they would actually measure the wattage being put out of the amp and they would have to compete at that particular level.

By the way, I'm not sure who you were responding to about the cabin noise??

Actually, the best way to compete in SPL comps would seem to be to get at least 6 high powered subs and connect them directly to a AC outlet. In fact, I think some people have already done this. It should be about 16000 watts on tap at a 60 hz signal.

About the AC outlet?

What I mean is one competitor that I saw had something like twelve 18" subs wired in parallel and connected to a distribution block. The other end of the distribution block was connected to an extension cord that you would plug in the nearest outlet on the building closest to the competition.

This should provide 16000 watts with no amplifier! 60 hz is the frequency that AC current runs at so that would be the frequency you would compete at.
