I got this FreshDiagnose thing on my computer (www.freshdevices.com) and it shows a lotta info about my computer. I have a 1.3ghz AMD athlon k5 processor. It states somewhere in there that its maximum speed is 1500mhz. Does that mean I can easily make it be a 1.5ghz processor? My computer is a HP pavilion 7935. Thanks.

Thanks, what exactly is FBS, and if I buy a new processor, does it have to be same FBS or what?

FSB is the Front Side Bus, its the rate at which data is transfered through the memory, PCI and other busses as well as the CPU.

all that means is that your motherboard supports up to a 1.5ghz processor.
and now some questions to ask yourself before you start to overclock are you read yo risk burning up this processor, and can your afford to replace it or is it underwarrenty and can you go without a computer till you get the replacement. how good is your heatsink and fan, can it handle the added heat from the overclocked processor? remember I have 2 yes 2 AMD athlon XP Tbred cores being shipped to AMD for replacement from overclocking.

Even if you don't have the answer, you certainly have to admire the problem.

Thanks Joe. I know I'd have to update the cooling, but by the sounds of it, the AMD isn't too great for overclocking (or did you really really push it?) And you know I can't go without a computer.

well DUH lets see here a 1700+ (1.47ghz) 1.6volts is running at 3200+ (2.26ghz) 1.975 volts you think that is pushing it? and that's with air cooling.
the 1800+ (1.53ghz)I burned up was at 2800+ (2.07ghz) the 2100+ (1.73ghz) was running at inbetween a 2200+ and a 2400+ speed of 1.9ghz

Naw the AMD is great for the overclocker, he just pushes it a bit much. I've never had a cpu from amd or intel burn out on me. Rather never had one burn out that had a heatsink on it. I did have an old 1 ghz t-bird that the heatsink had come loose on and it burned out at 100 degrees C. But I've had my XP2100 and XP1600 up to 72 c and the CPU still works, but thats about the limit.
