How do I know if a car is a Buick Grand National without being right by it? (I wouldn't know even if I was right by it) Somebody that lives near me has a car that looks like the ones I've seen in videos, but I'm not sure.

Well, the Grand National badge on the ass-end of the car is a dead giveaway.

IIRC, it's gotta be black with blacked-out trim. Also the arrow logo on the seats and a floor console. Obviously the badging.
But don't forget you could also get the same engine/suspension in the T-Type, which could have a column shifter and look pretty close to a regular Regal.

theres a lot of things that can throw you off, like stupid things, but that doesn't mean it's not real. mine had a T-Type horn insert, but the numbers matched on everything.
some GN's had chrome grilles depending on year, check the interior, if it's grey with the turbo6, most likely it is, i don't think anyone would go through the trouble of taking a regal and putting in GN interior. also check for the 3.8L SFI TURBO badge on the hood, and the ehxaust, also the wheels play into it too, they're all automatics, GNX's have a badge on the dashboard with a number on it, also when the hood is up look at the 'hood blanket' for the BUICK turbo6 on it, and also the turbo shroud. if it's a v8 or some crap it's not. also, it's intercooled. very very very few T-types were intercooled also.
like i said if u dont know what your looking for you can be easily fooled
i thought mine was a GNX from about 20 ft away until i walked up to it and saw it wasn't. fun cars, pita on certain things, and that motor cannot be killed.

Being a car enthusiast yourself why don't you try knocking on their door and asking about the car? Most GN owners like talking about their cars. It's a better idea than sneaking around someone's home at night

You'll know if you see a dead sexy car that can go really fast for being that DAMN old. Really though, GN's were way ahead of there time and so freakin awesome.
