The valve body can be reached by removing the battery and battery tray. Disconnect the A/C accumulator and move out of the way. All you have to do here is remove the bolts from the bottom and it will move to one side. Disconnect the range sensor, solenoid block connector, transmission shift cable and bracket. Disconnect the transmission cooling inlet line, which runs infront of the valve body cover. Unbolt the cover and remove it. Remvoe the solenoid body wiring harness retainer clip and unbolt the valve body.

This is of course a very simplified list of instructions from the manual, but you should be able to get an idea of what is going on once you get the battery and battery tray out and take a closer look.

As far as where Mercman got his VB? I will let him answer that because I am not 100%.
