I've been using TrickShift full synthetic (the blue stuff) for the last 3 changes or about the last 60K miles. I just replaced the range sensor which scarred the crap out of me when the tranny was going nuts but thanks to the advice here on CEG, it's now running as smooth as ever!

I just have a couple of questions: 1. How do you get to the valve body to replace it without removing the engine / trans or is there a site that shows this procedure? 2. Where did you order your valve body & TC?
Thanks for anything you can share. I've had the problem with bang-shifting from 1 - 2 for a couple of months now & tried changing the sensor that can be reached from behind the driver's side wheel but no change in shifting. It seems to be OK for the first few miles of driving (stop & go every mile) but starts the bang-shifting after that. I can kill and restart the car to get it to go away, but that lasts only another few miles before it starts up again. I drive about 15 miles to work each day and get there with about two restarts.
Thanks again.

The valve body can be reached by removing the battery and battery tray. Disconnect the A/C accumulator and move out of the way. All you have to do here is remove the bolts from the bottom and it will move to one side. Disconnect the range sensor, solenoid block connector, transmission shift cable and bracket. Disconnect the transmission cooling inlet line, which runs infront of the valve body cover. Unbolt the cover and remove it. Remvoe the solenoid body wiring harness retainer clip and unbolt the valve body.
This is of course a very simplified list of instructions from the manual, but you should be able to get an idea of what is going on once you get the battery and battery tray out and take a closer look.
As far as where Mercman got his VB? I will let him answer that because I am not 100%.

Thanks! That doesn't sound too bad. As far as replacing the valve body, does that require any special tools or is this something a weekend warrior can accomplish? I've haven't been into any transmissions except to replace fluid, filter, & gasket on a variety of GM rear wheel drive transmissions.
Thanks again!

I think you can get a rebuilt valve body from ATC Distribution group (1800-999-5590) for $275. I just called them yesterday since I am going to replace my valve body too. I don't know where to get a cheap TC.
By the way, does anybody can estimate how much to replace a TC in a shop? I believe the valve body can be done by myself, but TC would be too hard for me to do.

Drain the coolant before removing the side tranny side cover. You have to remove the T-Stat hosing (on a V6) to maneuver the side cover off. Also, if you already have TC slip then you must replace the TC, in this case, pull the engine and then do the VB.
I got my TC from transtar inds. But autozone can order one for $139. the V6 and 4 cyl use different TCs F69 and F67. If I remember the F69 is for the V6.
IGY, ATC has TCs also, but shipping is a lot. jeff

I order my TC from AutoZone today. Just to confirm, F69 is the number they ordered for my V6 Mystique. Just as Mercman said, it was $139 plus $45 for the core charge.

Hello, mercman: I have a question about installing the VB. I get the rebuilt VB from ATC today ($282 including tax and shipping) but it comes without any gaskets. Do I need a new main control cover gasket and other gaskets? Or can I use all the old gasket? I am going to do it soon. Thanks for your reply
