Bless Ford dealerships everywhere! I went into my local Ford dealership with 2 problems and they solved them both...1st time! As I'm fond of saying, with the new technology in today's cars often a local garage is on a too-steep learning curve when trying to troubleshoot our cars. My dealer knew where to look based on knowledge / track record with these cars:

Problem 1
----------
Symptom: No A/C.
Other Info: No leaks, full charge, no power to compressor, A/C dash switch/relay functioning
Things Replaced: WOT throttle relay
Solution: Replace A/C compressor clutch

Problem 2
----------
Symptom(s): Car bogging under acceleration, out-dragged by fully-loaded cement mixer. Car would only upshift under part throttle:
Other Info: Transmission checked...no codes; Muffler shop checked catalyst, allegedly no problems with it!
Solution: Timing belt and idlers replaced (belt so worn that it had stretched out of shape and cracked...even wore groove in idler pullies!) Catalytic converter almost completely clogged because of too-rich mixture, bad timing.

Cool, I'm glad you tracked your problem down and got it fixed, how many miles were on your car when you had the timing belt replaced ? Did you do it yourself or have it done ? How much did it cost you to have it done or to buy parts ? (my car has 87K on it and I know this fix is soon on the horizon). Ken 99 SE SIlver Frost Zetec Atx

Ken, 99 Silver Frost SE Zetec Atx, polished alloys, Kumho's, Pioneer hi power CD/AM/FM. Factory spoiler (added) Audi side lites, Borla stainless steel muff. Stolen, recovered in pieces. Looking for another Tour, preferably V6, 5 speed.

I had the dealership replace the timing belt. My current klicks are 192000. (120,000 miles). Common wisdom is to replace every 100,000 klicks. Unfortunately the guy from whom I bought the car, though anal about oil changes, fixing annoying squeaks, etc., forgot to replace it at the first 100,000 klicks! I've got all the receipts for every oil change, muffler, and misc. service ever done on the car but it had the original timing belt!

Cost = $1200.00. $300 for aftermarket cat., $220 for timing belt, $250 for idlers, the rest for labour ($72 /hour). This is all in $Cdn which (as of today) is approximately $850 US. Not too bad since everything was fixed right the first time. I should mention that the transmission shop did the diagnostic on the ATX free of charge!

A/C was another $450 Cdn. (2.5 hours labour + $250 for the part + taxes).

B&N did the transmission check up. I agree...they seem to be an honest shop.

The timing belt and cat were done at Dan Murphy Ford.
