My friends there are for sure cars( not stock) that were running 9's in the 70's, and not supercharged or blown as we called it then. Mind you it did cost money but nowhere near what it cost today.A hi-po manifold and a Holly 650 double pumper was nothing compared to the cost of todays fuel injection and if you'll notice then rails running still today are using 2 4-barrel carbs and not fuel injection. BTW I was not really concerned that the Charger was that Fast But that the Toyota supra was running 9 sec. THATS A JOKE!!

Late 60/early 70s Chargers were running 11s in super stock, NA with big 4 bbl carbs. There were cars similar to the F&F charger that were running like B gas modified or some other obscure class, but as mentioned above, the smaller, lighter cars could be made more competetive. I use to live down the street from a guy that had a very modified early Nova body that was injected, but not blown and ran high 9s. (Absolutely NOT streetable!) This was in the early 70s. I think the F&F charger could have run 9s.

Speaking of Nova's......a guy who lives on my mail route has about 4 pre-67 Nova's. His wagon goes 10.4X @ 130's all motor, and his coupe went 10.3X on the bottle, IIRC. And he drives them all on the street.

A freind of mine used to have a '69 charger that ran high 10's. It was street legal and he drove it quite often. No power adders either. It had a 500 ci big block motor (not sure on the exact size, but it was around 500) I have seen a challenger in the 9's, but that is a lighter car. I dont think it would take a whole lot to get a charger running 9's, especially with a power plant like the one in F & F had.

I have no doubts that a Charger could run 9's without alot of trouble, my hubby's Roadrunner runs mid 10's with a stock 426 hemi, so if it was modded a little he could probably get in the high 9's and it's bigger, heavier than the Charger. He wants to keep it all stock though since it's all original, he's 2nd owner with all paper work (special order paperwork, build sheets clear down to every oil change and all maintence) since new. Talk about someone being wacko about their car, my hubby and the guy he bought it off of take the cake!!! The kids (now 14&12) have to remove their shoes before they get in the car, And there has NEVER been any eating or drinking of any kind in this car!!! Beautiful beast though!!
95 Teal Se 5 spd,duratech, loaded(except moonroof) no mods.

You guys ever heard of the 1963 Ford Thunderbolt?
It was an 11 second car you could buy off the showroom floor. Fiberglass fenders plexiglass windows and a 425 hp 427.

The charger could probably run 9's with slicks especially the way it was set up. Anyone who has ever watched the chase scene in Bullit knows how fast a 440 six pack charger can take off. I know that the F&F car is not the same engine but it would be a seriously quick car. As for the talking about novas joe, an 87' is not what I would call a nova that people drag race. Sorry if you were trying to be humorous. When people use novas to drag race they usually have late 60's or early 70's with rear wheel drive. If I am correct an 87' nova was a little front drive thing.

I remember at the time that most real nova owners were outraged at the "misuse" of the nova name. I think the late 80s Novas were of the Toyota Corolla variety.
