Image Dynamics has just come out with an ID8 v.3 with a supposed 15mm X-max (one-way) for $109 on Sounddomain. The box requirements are very small at a minimum of .2ft^3 sealed or .5ft^3 ported. I've been unsuccessful at locating the T/S parameters, in particular its QTS, as it might be the choice for a rear deck subwoofer(s). It's available in dual 2ohm or dual 4ohm VC configs.
Another very interesting 8" subwoofer is JL Audio's new 8w7. It's got a 19mm X-max (Yikes!) and a QTS = .612 (great for free-air, like the rear deck). The box requirements are also pretty reasonable. Its biggest drawback is its price at $300+ each.
I'm pondering a pair of ID8s or a single 8w7 for the hatch of my RX7. Anyone with any thoughts on either sub or other possibilities of an extremely long-throw 8" sub with smallish enclosure requirements?
I kinda thought about Kicker L5/L7s, but the idea of a square sub just seems strange.

The ID8 looks like a good candidate. Although, with taht low of a box requirement, it either is very ineffecient, or has a very low Qts.
I have always thought of the L7 as being an excellent free air sub, but the cost kills me.

The E8A from Elemental Designs looks like a viable candidate. 16.5mm xmax, .44 qts, and 185.00.

You have some excellent taste in subs. I hve heard similar models from all of these brands and they are all awesome. Value wise though, i believe your best choice is eitehr going to be the elemental designs or the image dynmaics subs. But i think you will be happy with any of the four subs.

If tangband would only make a higher Q version of their 8" sub, we would have a winner.

I checked that one out when I saw a posting about it on carsound.com. It's just the dern price. Could a single E8A cut it?
I guess the choices would be:
(1) Pair of ID8 v.3 (2) Single JL Audio 8w7 (3) Single Elemental Designs E8A (4) Pair of Kicker L5s (5) Single Kicker L7 (6) Other????????????????????????
I'm looking for an SQL setup with an emphasis on low frequency extension. The enclosure volume can be up to 1ft^3 or so. I don't have a preference between sealed or ported as long as it sounds good.

Which Tangband sub do you mean? I can deal with a lower Q for the enclosure in my RX7.

It has a 12 mm xmax and costs about 40.00.

Wow, that sounds like a pretty good value. Gonna have to model that one and see how well it fits my app.
