As far as Steve's car he just needs to replace the belt, tensioner, and pulleys when his timing belt broke.

Everything you need can be found on www.fordpartsonline.com just use their catalog. You need 2 idler pulleys (though only one of them seems to get worn, other seems to stay good), tensioner, and belt, might as well do water pump, and serpentine belt and any associated pulleys that seem to be on the way out. Also add an UDP if you're into performance... It's a heck of a job though, so be ready. 2 parts you'll won't find on fpo are following, but call them and they can get you these parts:
W700001-S1309
F5RZ-6L273-A
Two small parts that hook onto the tensioner when you put it on. Get a haynes manual and you'll see.

There has been at least one incidence of interference happening when the belt broke. A lot of times it won't hurt anything when it breaks, but it is not safe to treat the Zetec as a non-interference motor.

Yeppers, belt breaks, car dies out. Not fun when your 400 miles from home. Get the belt fixed ASAP.

Here's some pics from my fun weekend!!!

Steve I would like to thank you for proving me right about the Zetec being a non-interference engine

Having your belt break and no harm happening does not mean it's a non-interference engine. 19 out of 20 belt breaks might do no harm, and then the 20th one is disastrous.

OK so you are telling me that an interferance design would have no problems 99% of the time

how much experieance do you have in mechanical design???
how tight are tolerances on internal engine parts???
do you have the slights clue what is ment be INTERFERANCE?

well I do interfearnce design engine means each and EVERY time you snap a belt you need to replace internals. on an interference engine if timing is off by even a small amount it would cause danage to the valves and pistons. snap a belt and say good bye to the valve rods pistions and in worse cases the head as parts tend to get wedged into the cylinder walls.
