This means that the PCM is detecting a speed difference between the engine and transmission when ??lock up? has been ordered. This condition causes the ATF inside the TC to heat to unsafe temperatures because the lock up clutch is dragging (like ridding a clutch with a manual). The PCM will order a ??safe home? condition that will cause rough (bang) shifting and sometimes the CEL. The only cure is to replace the TC and install a Valve Body (or rebuild yours) that has been rebuilt with new valves and modified to prevent this problem. If you continue to drive the car, the ATF will overheat and fry the rest of the tranny.
